What to consider when booking your first cleaning

Learn what to know before booking your first cleaning, including availability, booking times, cleaning duration, required supplies, and how to prepare your home.

Written by Stephane Journot

Booking your first cleaning takes just a few minutes, but a little preparation goes a long way toward making that first visit go smoothly. Here's everything worth knowing before you book: whether Batmaid covers your area, how far ahead to plan, how long to book, and what to have ready at home.

Is Batmaid available in your area?

Batmaid operates within a defined set of serviceable ZIP codes across Switzerland. At booking, you'll be asked to enter your local ZIP code. If Batmaid isn't available in your area yet, you can sign up to be notified as soon as we launch there.

How far in advance should I book?

New bookings need to be made at least 48 hours ahead of the requested cleaning time. Cleanings can be scheduled any time between 7:00 and 20:00, in 30-minute increments.

How long should I book?

Bookings have a minimum duration of 2 hours for recurring cleanings and 3 hours for one-off cleanings, and a maximum of 5.5 hours per visit. Durations are booked in half-hour increments. As a rule of thumb, a Batmaid Cleaning Agent cleans around 30 square metres per hour - and any extras you add, such as windows (interior), oven or fridge cleaning, will increase the time needed.

A few examples of how extras typically add to your booking: cleaning inside the oven, cabinets, or fridge each usually adds about 30 minutes; ironing is added in 30-minute blocks based on how much you need; and window cleaning time depends on how many windows you have and their size, generally rounded up to the nearest 30 minutes.

What do I need to have ready at home?

Batmaid Cleaning Agents don't bring their own cleaning products or equipment: you'll need to have your own supplies available. A typical cleaning requires:

  • Equipment: vacuum cleaner, bucket, mop, dustpan and brush

  • Cleaning tools: microfiber cloths, sponges, cleaning gloves, feather duster

  • Products: all-purpose cleaner, bathroom/WC cleaner, descaler and disinfectant

  • Optional: oven cleaner, window squeegee and white vinegar

The vacuum cleaner is a must-have - a cleaning generally can't proceed as planned without one available. If you've added extras to your booking, a few more items are worth having on hand: oven cleaner for oven cleaning, washing liquid and softener if you've booked laundry, glass cleaner and clean microfibers for windows, and an ironing board and iron for ironing.

You don't need to be home during the cleaning, as long as you've arranged access in advance (see our article on access instructions for how to do this). For your very first cleaning, though, it's worth being there to welcome your Batmaid Cleaning Agent, show them around, and align on your expectations.
